Effects Of Sediment Microfabric on Benthic Optical Properties

چکیده

My long term goal is to examine how inorganic factors, such as differences in sediment character or packing, contribute to the reflectance, scattering, and fluoresence of incident light at the seabed in coastal environments. Of particular interest is the degree to which the water column light field is sensitive to inorganic changes in bottom type, and whether such changes can be described in simple mathematical models. Ultimately, my intention is to apply this work to the identification of seabed sediment characteristics utilizing remote sensing platforms, such as hyperspectral satellite and airborne imagery.

Colored Dissolved Organic Matter in Sediments and Seagrass Beds and Its Impact on Shallow Water Benthic Optical Properties

The optical properties of shallow water coastal environments are a complex function of physical and biogeochemical processes occurring both in sediments and in the water column. Developing models of the optical properties of these environments requires further knowledge of the processes affecting light alteration and modification by biogeochemical reactions in the surficial sediments and at the...

The Effect of Environmental Parameters (Depth and Sediment) on the Benthic Molluscs Density and Diversity in the the crater of Nayband Bay

In order to investigate the sedimentary texture, diversity and density of benthic molluscs, 55 stations at 9 transect were collected in the Nayband Bay.Samples were taken with a Van Veen grab (0.022 m2) in 3 replications in each site.Using a Particle Size Analyzer instrument revealed that the sediment texture was dominated by sand with 7 sub distinct sub sediment. Semelidae,Veneridae and Tellin...

The impact assessment of cage aquaculture on benthic communities along the south eastern Black Sea

The present study was conducted to examine the impact of cage aquaculture on benthic communities in coastal areas (depth 25 to 50 m) from fish farming operations located along the southeastern Black Sea (Ordu-Perşembe, Trabzon-Yomra and Rize central). Sampling was conducted seasonally from April 2007 to 2009. Sediment samples were taken using Ekman Grab (box core- 0.04 m2). Temperature, salinit...

Effects of Detrital Subsidies on Soft-Sediment Ecosystem Function Are Transient and Source-Dependent.

Detrital subsidies from marine macrophytes are prevalent in temperate estuaries, and their role in structuring benthic macrofaunal communities is well documented, but the resulting impact on ecosystem function is not understood. We conducted a field experiment to test the effects of detrital decay on soft-sediment primary production, community metabolism and nutrient regeneration (measures of e...
